This highly exclusive MR-G celebrates both traditional craftsmanship and advanced technologies of Japan, all in one unique sword-inspired watch.
This 500 piece collaboration model in honor of the 40th anniversary of G-Shock was produced together with master swordsmith Sadanobu Gassan.
The bezel of the watch is made of a newly developed hybrid titanium consisting of re-crystallized layers of pure titanium and Ti64 titanium. On it the characteristic ayasugi-hada patterns of the Gassan family. Finished in Casio's latest ion plating technology, the blue-gray bezel, band and case back have the bluish iron tint typical of an artisan sword. The case's titanium has a distinctive crystallized pattern treated with a deep hardening process and a titanium carbide finish for even greater strength and wear resistance.
As a reference to the philosophy of the Japanese sword, Gassan has made the titanium band to resemble a stinger. This invisible but crucial part of the sword is traditionally worked with a yasuri-me pattern to keep the blade firmly in the hilt. Gassan applies these markings to the bracelet by hand, as well as the inscriptions 鍛 and 錬, symbolizing his family's dedication to swordsmithing. This care for detail and excellence gives each watch a unique look.
